In between the releases of Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect you have the less popular, yet still worthwhile Bioware RPG Jade Empire. And yes, even by today’s standards this game still holds up very well. This game was released towards the tail end of the original Xbox’s life and a few months before the Xbox 360 made its way into stores, so this (along with titles like the original Forza, which became one of the leading Xbox series of any genre) were some excellent swan songs to Microsoft’s original big box. While Jade Empire starts off a bit slow, stick with it and you’ll experience its enjoyable martial arts battle system, wide array of choices, and intriguing storyline. It’s just a shame that there wasn’t a “new game plus” mode, or an ability to run through the world and interact with characters and complete side quests when you’ve finished the main story… Once the credits roll, the adventure is done for good.
